I have been a Republican all of my life and have watched the Republican Party over the past years lose its way. The concept of smaller government, less spending and lower taxes is a distant memory.
Where have the conservative politicians disappeared to? I can barely list Republican politicians who are true conservatives. Every election cycle it seems to be a choice of the lesser of two evils.
I have had a longtime belief that the Democrats, if left in power long enough, will destroy the Nation. Unfortunately if the Republicans continue to abandon their once conservative values they will destroy the Nation as well. It will just take them a little bit longer.
President George Bush was amazing in his response to 9/11 and he did what I would expect any President to do. Also, his policy on lower taxes was a great idea. It undoubtedly strengthened the economic outlook of America. But! And there is a big but here, the rest of his domestic policies brought more big government and bigger spending than any other president in my lifetime. Plus, the man never stood up for himself or his administration. In the end he was a huge disappointment.
But wait!

Here comes Barack Obama who outdid Bush’s record and spent more than ALL US Presidents combined. An unsustainable path. The Democrats and Republicans have not passed a budget in years even though a yearly budget is a Constitutional requirement. It’s just too easy to pass a Continuing Resolution and spend more money. Let’s just kick the can down the road another year.
Now Obama is Out and surprise of surprises Donald J. Trump beats Hillary Clinton for the win in 2016. Like clockwork the Democrats start plotting to remove Donald J. Trump even before his inauguration. Donald J. Trump immediately becomes the enemy of the Deep State, Mainstream Media, Democrats, Never Trumpers and assorted RINOs. Now there is a concerted effort to remove President Trump from office using any made up crime the Democrats can imagine.
The current crop of politicians in Washington DC have abandoned the American people. Representative governance has given way to a government dictating to the people from Washington DC. Somehow in the rarefied air inside the beltway they know what’s best for America. At least, that’s what it looks like from here. If the non-producers exceed the producers in the next election cycle a permanent voting block will be created by citizens that have learned how to vote for largess from the US Treasury. This usually results in the collapse of every nation where this has occurred. America is on the brink of disaster.
What happened to the Republican Party? They seem to have no backbone and are suffering from lack of leadership.
What happened to my America?
Where is the America that I grew up in? I can barely recognize it. I feel like I am an American Political Orphan.
